Where does the word tabachi® (Ta ba chi) come from?
In our research, tabachi has a number of pronunciations, i.e. (Ta ba ki), Tobacco stores found throughout Europe and the Middle east.
tabachi also has something to do with sheeps wool, but we haven’t gotten to the bottom of this one.tabachi seems also to be a relatively common name in Japan.
In our use of the word, we can say that at the time, we thought we had completely made up the word simply by creating an amalgam of 'Table' and 'Hibachi'. We liked it and it has stuck ever since.

Does the smoke cause a problem when sitting at the table?
No. Heated air and resultant smoke from the grill naturally flues straight up well above guests before dispersing.
It is only if the unit has been set up in an area that exposed to a strong prevailing wind that this natural fluing will be effected.

What type of timber is used?
We use select grade FSC approved West Australian Jarrah as our main source of timber for the the tabachi® bbq suite. However we have released a limited edition series of the tabachi® bbq suites made from recycled Red and Grey Ironbark sourced from Sydney's famous Woolloomooloo Bay Finger Wharf. We have had requests also for Teak to Spotted gum. Because the the tabachi® bbq suite is handmade and not mass produced, if you have a species in mind that you would like to enquire about, give us a call on (03) 9330-3329.
back to topWhat needs to be done to care for it?
We apply the timber with 3 coats of protective, penetrating oil, with UV, water, fungi and mould resistant properties specifically formulated to preserve and maintain the natural look of the timber.
Despite this, regular reapplication is required to maintain its natural beauty and durability. The good part is that reoiling is an easy task, that doesn’t take very long and is not messy. If a location is chosen that has good shelter from natures elements, reoiling can be as little as once a year, however in fully exposed areas, at least once every 3 months is recommended.
The the tabachi® bbq suite comes with an Australian manufactured high quality canvas cover by "Mulders Shade and Canvas". These beautiful custom made covers help beat the extremes of exposure and make caring for tabachi easy. Look after this product and the quality materials will reward for a lifetime.

How easy is tabachi® to clean and what about splatters?
The tabachi® bbq suite is designed so that you have easy access to all areas in and around the grill unit that may need cleaning. Because the timber work has been coated with a resin rich penetrating oil, splatters and cooking grease are easily wiped away from the timber surface with just a warm damp cloth. Even with the heaviest amount of splatter, most will be concentrated immediately on the removable frame around the grill unit which is easily removed and wiped down.

Is there any assembly or tools required with the tabachi® bbq suite?
No. From the beginning of our design, we were adamant that we would not create a product that then required its customers to also have a degree in engineering and then spend hours deciphering a set of vague assembly instructions that have been equally poorly written in all of its 7 languages.
The the tabachi® bbq suite is delivered fully assembled and lets you get started in the minimum of time and fuss.
