Meet the Maker

Werner was born in 1964 in Australia and grew up in Melbourne’s west. His parents have always been self sufficient, created miracles by being innovative, wasted nothing and always taught by example. Werner says that these are the basic attitudes that have shaped him and act as his life code.

It is this self sufficiency ethos that had the biggest influence. It is what has shaped his life, career choices and the eventual development of the tabachi^® concept.

Although employed in a rewarding, well paid role, the need to strike out on his own had for years just constantly gnawed away, until he travelled to South Korea in 2001. There, Werner describes, in a tucked away corner of Seoul, was a brilliant Korean bbq restaurant and the basic concept that was about to change his life.

A wobbly table with a central tub full of super hot charcoal, a grill which looked like part of a shopping trolley, diesel trains that seemed to be running virtually through the restaurant and a bucket of meat. The concept however got through and the impact was instant.

In two days he was home in Melbourne and straight into the shed along with a rough sketch of his vision in hand. Five years and the journey of a lifetime have produced what we see today.

Werner passionately believes that no matter what it is you do in life there is always something to be learned, surprised by, overcome and appreciated. The idea formed in Seoul ignited his imagination and set off a series of events that allowed all of the skills he had from his learned from his parents and a lifetime of working with his hands to kick in.

Seeing people’s eyes light up when they first see the the tabachi^® bbq suite and its beautiful timber is something Werner loves to see and what makes all the hard work worthwhile.

Werner says. "Life is too short and the world too incredible; you simply have to love what you do".

 

 

Company Profile

Tabachi Pty Ltd was incorporated in May of 2003. For the first three years the company was based at the home of its director, Werner Kaiser, just outside Melbourne’s CBD. During this time the company was mainly focused on the design and development of the the tabachi^® bbq suite concept and product. CAD modelling and industrial design led to the creation of a series of initial prototypes and application was made for Intellectual property protection.

2006 saw Tabachi Pty Ltd receive Australian Gas Association (AGA) certification and included the completion of the the tabachi^® bbq suite production prototype. At this time, the company leased a 300sqm factory space in Airport West and the workshop/manufacturing facility was established.

The aim of Tabachi Pty Ltd is to create, first and foremost, a spectacular Australian made product which is handmade, innovative and unique. That is, a product which is without gimmicks and which not only complements but enhances the contemporary Australian lifestyle. Extensive research and consideration was given to these elements during the design and development phase and is further supported by the use of superior materials and loving workmanship.

Tabachi Pty Ltd will continue to develop the the tabachi^® bbq suite concept. Developments may include introducing new timber species and layouts into the design. Tabachi Pty Ltd also aims to offer recycled timbers as an option in the near future to promote the use of these timbers and continue the great story that these fantastic materials usually come with.
